Men’s Retreat – Jan 19-20
In our past American culture, there has always been a vision of rugged masculinity where men were tough, sometimes at the expense of failing to be tender when tenderness was necessary. But, in today’s culture this vision is countered with a disastrously feminized masculinity where men surrender their God-given roles to women. This flies directly in the face of God’s purpose for creation and begs the question, “What is God’s purpose of creating male and female?”
At our Men’s Retreat on January 19-20, 2018, our speaker, Dr. Richard Phillips, will cut through all of the cultural confusion by consulting God’s Word. The Bible gives us a clear explanation of how men are to assume their God-given roles as leaders, husbands, fathers, and church men.
Dr. Richard Phillips, Pastor of Second Presbyterian Church of Greenville, South Carolina, will be leading our time based upon a book he has written, The Masculine Mandate. Dr. Phillips shows that in Genesis God commissioned Adam to “work” and “keep” the Garden of Eden. In these twin tasks, he sets forth a picture of manhood which, when carried out, provides dignity to men, service to mankind, and glory to God. He goes on to show that men are called to lead, to love their wives, to discipline their children with grace, and to serve the church of Jesus Christ.
