Friday Night Worship and Presbytery

by Pastor on April 21, 2009

Cornerstone family,

This Friday and Saturday we will be hosting our presbytery’s 77th stated meeting. A presbytery is a collection of churches within the EPC and within our geographic region. The people coming to the meeting will be the teacher elders (pastors) and representative ruling elders from these churches. You are welcome to come and observe the meetings to find out what you’re extended church family is like and what we do at these meetings. We meet three times a year at different church sites throughout our region. Since our region is large geographically, visiting a meeting hosted on our campus is a rare opportunity to visit without having to travel. If you’re interested, below are some details:

Schedule:

Friday 12-3pm Presbytery committee meetings
Friday 1-3pm Registration of commissioners
Friday 3-6:30pm Presbytery meeting
Friday 6:30-7:30pm Dinner (in the gym) for registrants
Friday 7:30-8:30pm Worship

Saturday 6:30am Coffee available
Saturday 7-8am Breakfast for registrants
Saturday 8am-Noon Resume Presbytery meeting

What goes on in the meeting?

The work of presbytery is divided up among a variety of committees made up of teaching and ruling elders. These committees do their work and report back to the presbytery as a whole. The Presbytery meeting consists of hearing these reports and taking action if necessary. Some of these committees include:

  • Ministerial committee – Oversees the examination of candidates for ordination and provides pastoral care for pastors.
  • Candidates committee – Provides mentoring and preparation for candidates for ministry.
  • New Church development – Provides support for new church plants.
  • Revitalization – Helps churches evaluate their ministries and offers support for church revitalization.
  • World Outreach – Oversees and cares for missionaries supported by the presbytery, and keeps presbytery informed as to missionary needs and activities.

Friday Night worship:

The Cornerstone family is welcome to join the members of presbytery for a time of worship together. If you’re able, come rub shoulders with your extended church family!

In Christ,
Carter

let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.Galatians 6:9–10
