Fast 3: Self Denying Love

Monday evening — Read Isaiah 58:7-8

jesus-feeding-hungry7 Is it [the fast the Lord chooses] not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? 8 Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.

As our hunger for that which we are denying ensued, we were reminded this afternoon that the fast the Lord chooses is to break the bonds of the Enemy, to bring forth justice in our world, and the Lord continues to point us towards his fast – not in denying ourselves physical nourishment per say, but in sympathetic acts of self denying love.  One purpose for our fast is to see that our mission (the Lord’s mission) is to be a blessing in our community – sharing meals with the helpless, being hospitable to the homeless, not hording the Lord’s righteousness but to share the good news of the Gospel with other harassed people so that they might be set free too and so that his glory would be spread across the Earth. Lets pray…

  1. for our Feeding Before Feasting food drive through the beginning of November that the Lord would place in our hearts to provide in abundance for the people who go into Katy Christian Ministries for meals
  2. for the Lord’s call to increasingly be placed on our hearts to be a part of the Great Commission…to share the gospel to the ends of the Earth which starts in our backyards
  3. for the Lord to give us an increasing awareness of the harassed and helpless condition of others and to help us see people as Jesus sees people.
  4. for the Lord to bring other helpless people into our immediate lives that we can clothe both in their physical and spiritual nakedness
  5. that we might see these actions as bringing healing to us as well, exposing our own idols and our own helplessness as the Lord uses us to bring healing to His entire creation—His making right of wrong things going before us as his glory surrounds us.

let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.Galatians 6:9–10
