The author of Ecclesiastes doesn’t sugarcoat the despair he seems to find at every turn. He looks for meaning and finds it be the carrot we can never quite reach. It’s a book that speaks to the teenager contemplating the contradictions of the universe, the millennial seeking meaning and direction, the mid-life man and woman questioning their career choices, etc. It’s an ancient book that addresses modern struggles. Perhaps that’s why it concludes, “there is nothing new under the sun.”
And yet, it’s full of wisdom for those who are willing to plumb its depths.
