God Our Judge (Ps 50)

Psalm 50

The writer reminds us that God is this ultimate judge. He is the one to whom we can look for our final appeal (and our first appeal). The theme of God as judge is a good theme, not a frightening one. Unless, of course, you’re an enemy of God. Then it’s a terrifying theme. But for God’s people, his role as judge is one of the great comforts that we have. When we rightly understand the kind of judge God is, it moves us from a relationship built on transaction to a relationship built on trust.
