My Rock (Ps 71)

Psalm 71

My grandmother lived to 100. That’s a lot of years; a lot of experiences; a lot of wisdom packed into a person. She lived through two world wars, the great depression and everything in between. She was also a woman of faith. And so I sought to record her story. Rhonda and I interviewed her to learn more about what the culture was like when she was growing up, how she met my grandfather, how it was raising my mother and aunt on a farm. We weren’t even sure what we wanted to find out. We just knew that in her head was a wealth of wisdom. Psalm 71 is kind of like that. It’s a prayer of one who is old and in need of rescue.

Do not cast me off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent. (Ps 71:9)

The prayer invites us to see how a life of walking with the Lord leads to peace in the midst of trials.
