The Poverty of Worldly Wealth
God’s judgment upon Tyre and Sidon in this chapter is a judgment upon wealth. Tyre was a rock-island with many ports. It was the center of trade throughout the world and represented the heart of the world economy. In judging Tyre, God is reminding us that He is sovereign over wealth. We need to hear this message just as the people of Isaiah’s day needed to hear this message. Our faith in wealth and economic structures must give way to faith in God. To help us, Isaiah shows us three views of wealth.
