Promise and Perseverance
Faith is a lot like a narrow road road. If you don’t pay attention to it, you’ll end up in a spiritual ditch and going nowhere. Nobody wants that, of course, so how do we avoid it? This passage points you to important guard rails to protect you from veering off. One of those is the promise of God. The other is the perseverance of man. Both are critical to an informed faith that keeps us growing in Christian maturity. Without God’s promise we have very little, if any, reason to hope in the future. It is a ditch of despair. Without perseverance we have very little, if any fruit. It is a ditch of disaster.
To stay on the road between the guardrails is to understand the relationship between perseverance and promise.
