Isaiah 41:1-20

As look at the advent in Isaiah we find the stage being set that gives context to Jesus coming into the world. Jesus’ coming shines the light on a contrasting way of understanding our relationship to God. You see, the idea of religion has to do with how man can reach up to God. It’s about figuring out the right way to live, the right sacrifice to make, the right rules to live by that will win you God’s reward. What have you done for God? Christianity stands alone in that it flips this on its head. Rather than showing us what we must do to get to God, it shows us that God reached down to us. Specifically in this passage we find the repeated phrase, “I am the one who helps you.”
