The Second Commandment

At first glance, the second commandment conjures up thoughts of an ancient people bowing down before a gold statue. If you’re familiar with the story of Moses then maybe you think of the golden calf that the Israelites made when Moses was up on the mountain to receive the Ten Commandments. But there is more to the second commandment than gold statues. Essentially God is saying, “I am who I am and not who you might want me to be.” Creating our own, personal image of God is what is forbidden in the second commandment.
